nice work dev ! ive gotta do some kitchen tools one day !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Thanks pottz! It’s super satisfying
Nice spoon.  Did you hand carve, power carve?  I have access to some nice olive wood, but I wonder if it’s too hard to hand carve.

Half of what we read or hear about finishing is right. We just don’t know which half! — Bob Flexner

Hey, nice spoon! How are you and the many children doing? Well, I hope!?

Nice spoon Devin, a nice shape on the bowl, and good depth. Sometimes getting depth with hand tools is a bit of work. I have an Arbortech ball gouge. It cheating like using a laser or a CNC is. :-) But damned if it doesn't get the work done fast. If I want to spend time, I do have some good gouges, scorps, and other hand tools to use.
very nice spoon GR8 JOB 😍😎👍

Good spoon!   My aunt had 4 boys of her own.   Had 2 more boys she raised.  Aunt Pauline's implement of authority and device to deal out punishment was a large wooden spoon.   She was a great Mom, all the boys turned out well.
Your kids and the spoon brought back memories.

Ron

Thanks all!

Rich, hand carved. This was basswood (wanted to go easy on myself). Olive wood might be a bit of a challenge, but I have a few spoon blanks of European walnut that will present me with my own challenge as I progress through the softer woods to hardwood. You should look up the Janka hardness of olive wood in the online wood database.

DL, the kids are doing better than they had been. The littlest was sick for 90 days until we got him on a couple new medications.

George, thanks! I felt like I could have gone a little deeper but didn’t want to risk making the soft wood fragile. I follow on YouTube this creator that has lots of useful tips, like this one: https://youtu.be/f9Z_VxMQZQ4?si=3Lnfsn-GCcw2GaIG

Thanks Tony!

Ron, I couldn’t hold back a burst of laughter when I read “large wooden spoon” — my mother was Irish (may she RIP) and while I can attest that it was her hands you had to watch out for, we heard about wooden spoons.

Great work Devin! I was looking at the spoons I made years ago and I'm eager to do more as I feel I could do a better job now. Then again, I'm eager to do a lot of other projects too. LOL.
