A violin from a kit!!

Yes made from a US$150 kit back in 2022.  I got it from Stewart MacDonald, the well know luthier/guitar bits and pieces supplier. For that price I just had to have a go at making one - no intention of playing it. Not sure how much one is now, or if its still available, but at the time it was fantastic value.

The spruce top and curly maple, or was it sycamore,  back come carved and sanded.  The back had been glued to the linings, blocks and ribs. Channels were already there for the decorative purfling trim, and the machine-shaped neck was ready for sanding and fitting.

Every thing was there except a bow. I just had to have a go!!

Very little work was needed to complete it and only very basic tools. Main skills were sanding, gluing and then varnishing!!! Oh and add inlaying the white-black-white stringing to the neck and back to make it a bit more special!

It hangs on the wall in our dining room together with its US$10 bow from China and looks great.   It's still hasn't been played!

Thanks for looking!
That must have been a fun project.

Nicely done.  I have toyed with the idea of trying one of the Stew Mac kits.  Might have to give it a go.

You have to learn to play Mary Had a Little Lamb at least.

Good looking kit violin.    Yes it is not finished until someone plays something on it!

Ron

Real nice instrument. The kits are $285 today!!

Looks great. You deserve to hear it played though after all your sanding, gluing and varnishing. LOL.

Nice looking violin! I don't play an instrument, either.
