Tyres (or if you prefer Tires)

It has been a few years since I received a photo from a model maker in Germany. A photo of an extremely high-quality wooden model Mercedes. But what fascinated me most was the tire tread; Till now I wondered how he made it, and still don't know.

Last year I got an idea to be able to make more realistic wheels as well. I still had to work that out, but I thought it was possible to do this on a laser device. For me, that meant I would also need a heavier version. After purchasing a new 40-watt laser (LONGER) and the necessary preparations and trials, I succeeded. At least, I am satisfied with the prototypes shown here. Perhaps I will make a BLOG post sometime later.

The wood used is Oak (Quercus robur). The tyres are 63 mm in diameter.

Look as good as the the tires on my P-Car.    Very well done.

Those look fantastic.  Do you have a rotary axis for your laser?

I can also imagine making them in layers with a CNC and gluing the layers together.  With a rotary axis on the CNC you would not have to laminate them together.

Those are some great looking tyres.
 👍 for the rotary suggestion!

Those look great! One of my favorite "aromas" is a tire store. I get the same from scratching my screen on your photos and sniffing🤠

those tires are pefect dutchy, i dont know how you could get any better ?

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

But how'd you get the laser to paint it black? Engraving would have interfered with the treads.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Dutchy, these are really great!  WOW!  I think a "how to" blog may be in order here.  ;-)
How awesomely realistic do they look Jan!
To add something like them to a model would that the detailing to the next level sir.
An absolute winner 🏆 for model makers, plus those who have the smarts to run a laser.
Cheers Peter

Something we metric users get to expect from TYRES.
