Bird Houses

.I had some pieces of that real old cedar left and I wanted to give the sparrows a little more protection from the winter winds. I made these two Sparrow Hotels  for them!! I have 3 bird houses there now  and have room for 2 more between the bushes on the North side of the barn. I made them for sparrows because there are a ton of them around there. A funny thing happens when I run my vertical mill that is just inside the window on the North side of the barn. I looked out there 3 or 4 times now and when the mill is running, there are about 40 or more sparrows sitting all over the bushes looking in !!! They must like the sound of the motor !

These Sparrow Hotels are unfinished. I have a stainless hinge on the lid in the back and a copper angle to lock the front down. I can clean them out by raising the lid! I put vent slots near the top on the sides and drain holes in the bottom.  I had the lock miter bit still on the router table so all the corners are lock mitered and glued .  They are 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 12" high. I will mount them on steel posts next to the barn.

I want to thank Doug Scott for all the fine old cedar !!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers, Jim

Nice bird houses! I saw somewhere that someone said that the government was using machines that look like birds to spy on people. I don't want any of what those people may be smoking.

Nice Jim

I would want someone out side when you turn that machine on.  Find out where they are coming from. Be interesting to know.

Nice birdie boxes Jim. They usually end up falling into Forrest Gumps Box a chawklets thing. You hang em up, and never know what will populate them. I think hole size determines a lot.
