This is an ensemble I made starting in 2004 with the bed.   Plans from Wood Magazine Oct. 2002.
The plans are for queen size but simple upgrade to make it a King.    Wood is all QSWO and the finish is long forgotten.
The nightstands (2) again from plans from Wood Magazine Nov. 2004.   Same QSWO.
Lamps (2) were added in Dec 07 from Wood Magazine 2005.  Same QSWO  The lamps can be light with upper only, upper and lower or just the lower.   Or all off.
The furniture has endured well and used daily by wife and self.   dogs not allowed.
Never posted before as this was before i was even aware of woodworking forums.
Be happy to answer any questions if I can recall what I did back then.   Bed is 20 plus years old.  other items year or two less.
Still have all the plans.

The rail connectors to headboard and foot board from Lee Valley.    Used a center leg support under the middle of the bed.   No issues from any of the wood, plans or hardware, all have served well.

Man, that is so nice! Is that a real dog in the corner?

Holy slatman Ron!

Looks fantastic, but no dogs???

All that furniture matches nicely, awesome work!
Dog in the corner is a pillow.    Looks like our long ago English Yellow Lab named Sandy.    Sandy is gone but pillow still.here.
Sandy best dog I have ever had.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Very well done Ron. The qswo looks nice
That is one sweet bedroom set Ron, fantastic work here.
One question please, how do the vertical slats attach to the cross members? Hard to tell from the photos, but I'm guessing they go into a slot on top of the cross member, with blocks also in the slot in between them. Am I right?
Very nice work.
Fantastic work here Ron, a masterpiece of fine furniture for sure.
Slot the width of vertical slats cut in top and bottom cross pieces.
Board the width and depth of slot slots cut with of vertical slats.  This board glued into top and bottom slots leaving holes the same size as the vertical slots.    Wide center slat fills the space between each side.

Ron,

Love the style!  The square slats in the head and foot boards is something I really like!

Saw quite a bit of this in the 80s ,90s when antiqueing in up state NY.

Great work.

That is awesome Ron!  If I could build something half that nice I would be happy....Well done my friend.
I am a ways away from starting, but I would like to talk with you before I start, if you wouldn't mind.
It wouldn't take long.
The SWMBO said she would like a low footer, so that I could build detachable stairs as the dog age....I have tried stair along the edge, but they won't use them....we have stairs for the SUV and they are strait into the back and they like those...so anything angular freaks them out.

Mike

Be happy to help.   You can build this. See pm

Ron
