Gates

Some gates I just finished and installed this weekend.
I included the original layout so you can see what I was dealing with. I leveled the tops to give them some cohesiveness and I think it worked pretty good. The leaves and flowers are all forged from 1/8" plate so they should last a good long time. I made the hinges using 1/4" plate and heavy weld on hinges. I milled the cedar from a couple of large timbers and milled each section for equal sizes

Overall width was just over 12'

Wow, that is seriously nice! I considered patinated copper leaves on my gates but never got there. I wish I had thought of cutouts like you made.

Nice. Love the color.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Wow, that is sweet!

I've been making gates for the past month, kinda like the ones you replaced 😬
Pure utility, but burning up some of my stash of rusting steel 1x2 10Ga. I've had for many years.
fantastic, i would expect no less from you !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Thanks guys, it was a fun one to make! I do like the combo of artsy with functional. It was lucky that the two outer posts were solid as the middle one I was able to snap at ground level with very little effort

Effective and certainly good looking.

When I had a townhouse, the HOA replaced my front gatepost as that is their responsibility. A few months later I put up a pergola for shade, and the gate post came off like yours did. They didn't use treated lumber and the thing was full of termites.

The Other Steven

yes, those posts tend to rot right at the waterline... it was a pressure treated post though, same as the others
