So 2 weeks it took me, i worked on and off, and the paint took most of the time.
So as always, i start with a pic of the very first piece of wood. I started with 3/4" plywood,
I made the shelves out of 3/4 pine and routed the ends.
I routed a dado in the plywood sides to stick the shelves in.
I then had an almost complete shelf. I cut plywood and made the top.
I then started trimming up the edges, used 1×2 along the edges, and a 3×1 along the bottom.
Now it taking its look that it will have for ever!
So its off to the paint booth! Its like 2 coffins.
After a couple coats they looked good, i do need more light in my garage, after inspecting them i saw some spots i missed so had to go back for a touch up.
This next part was heart breaking, this lady wanted them distressed, so here i go, this fine finish and i go and screw it up!! I almost cried.
So to create an old vintage look i went with this, valspar glaze, and minwax gunstock stain.
And the before and after.
So at this point i wanted the lady to come check out the finish see what she thought. She was pretty happy, but asked, instead of the wood showing thru can you make it white showing thru,
I said sure, back to the paint booth! I painted all the edges that i was going to “distress” white, then again with the original color.
All in all this was my first distressed finish and i was pretty happy with the outcome, i learned some things, and the next project should be better. Here they are finished.
I will be delivering them on Thursday, hope she like them!
