I decided to do something a bit different when it came to siding the house I was finishing out. I found that I could obtain pallet “slabs” or the reject pieces from a pallet factory near where I live. These were 36" to 48" long, many with bad spots in them, some a bit thick or some a bit thin. I cut out the good into 18" lengths and put them onto the house like shingles. Most were oak, some poplar. I did not treat them with anything but am letting them weather. I think it looks pretty good and the cost was small. The “slabs” cost me about $30.00 but it took about $90.00 worth of staples for my pneumatic stapler.
Great idea gdpifer, looks very nice.

Exactly, what a great idea to use pallet slabs!

Creative thinking but I’m not to sure how oak is going to hold up outdoors especially if it’s red oak.
