White Oak Box

Posting some past projects:

This box was ‘carved’ from a section of a reclaimed white oak beam that I pulled from a barn a couple of years ago. The beam was about 5 – 6 feet long and this box came from the bottom section that was rounded smooth from all the livestock rubbing against it over the course of about fifty years from what I’m told.

The carving was done with a dish carving bit in my router and a collet extension. I filled the voids in the bottom with some clear epoxy.

Finish is BLO, wipe on poly, and orange oil/beeswax polish. The handle is hand-forged (not by me), can’t remember where I bought it at the moment.
