Carved Kitchen Utensils

1988
10

Hand carved of Spalted Beech (which was too hard for carving easily…never again!) these 12" utensils came out nicely. I’ve sanded them satin-smooth, and finished with hand rubbed Walnut Oil. The spalted wood makes them quite eye-catching, and I know they’ll be useful and stand up to abuse, but if I make any more of these, I’ll want to find something more suited to hand carving that won’t take me months to complete! That was one of the hardest woods I’ve ever taken a knife to.

Barb,

Those are really attractive. They look practical, too, but I’d be too afraid of staining one to use it. I’d just hang them and admire them!
