Bowl

With my Fibro and other health prblems it took 42 hsr to make this bowl . One time consuming part was that I could only insert one curved pc a day . I made a cylinder 6" in dia , 3/4 in thick 5 " high out of maple using the segment system , 8 pcs per row, I would cut the curved pattern out on my scroll saw with the cylinder in a jig I made ,looking in from the open bottom , insert one pc of aged cedar and then clamp and leave sit over night, 20 times . I used a dado blade to cut out the bottom slots for the aged cedar .For the top pc I glued a pc of particle board ring on top to stabilize the hole saw cuts, the cylinder was again held in place by the jig. . I then removed what was left of the particle board . Finally I inserted a pc of walnut for a good strong base to hold it while I lathed it . I put a light coat of oak stain on to level out the shades and 3 coats of high gloss polyurethane sanding in between with 0000 steel wool .

A true piece of art. Really beautiful. The complexity of some of these segmented turnings is really awe inspiring when the results are as good as this piece. Nice work.
