Hybrid Box

I was working on my skills at dovetails on some shorts of pine. That is the bottom part of the box.
The top is all 45 deg’s. made from some mesquite flooring shorts left over from a job.
Cutting bevels in the side of the box gave some interesting grain patterns.
Finished with BLO and Tung oil.

For just a practice job it turned out alright I think. Wants me to start another one.

Nice box. Leftovers always make the the most interesting boxes.

Very nice.

Very interesting! I like it!

Why do you call it Hybrid, because of the mixed woods and joints? I’ve not heard that term used to describe a wood working project.

Shin: you are correct on both. Two kind of woods and both dovetails and 45 deg’s.

Wow. I guess it was a great guess. :-)

Nice!! I have only tried box/finger joints for the most point. Did some hand-cut dovetails in pine on a small chest, but found that to be rather difficult. Box joints are so easy by comparison, at least if you don’t own a dovetail jig. I love the curved structure of the sides. Quite interesting. Great job!
