For Christmas I made some of these.
The blades are from Woodcraft. Not inexpensive at all, but for a special person I do not care.
I do not know what the scales are from, except from the the bottom of my scrap box. I made a template for the haft and went to work. The glue I used is epoxy. The only problem with this project is to avoid cutting yourself as these blades are terrifyingly sharp. I used a blade guard from an old Japanese pull saw that I taped over the business end. The finish is BLO with bees wax.
