Blanket Chest

We needed a storage space for spare bedding and a seat to rest ourselves on in the bedroom while getting dressed. Voila, a blanket chest. I decided to use raised panels like I’d made a lot for cabinet doors. The chest is about five feet long. The horn accent on the top is hand carved. The rest of the moldings, accents are cove to maintain a consistent design. The chest goes up against the wall so the hinge is in the front so it can open without the raised cover projection hitting the wall. The chest is made of cherry and has 4 wipe on coats of waterlox on it. My sister made a nice pad to go on top of it for comfort and protection. I think it matches quite nicely.

All in all a satisfying build and should end up an heirloom piece of furniture.

Thanks for looking.

Nice chest and beautiful wood.

That’s a long one. Judging from the number of raised panels, I guess about 60" in length.
It looks great!

Beautiful chest. Nice paneling you are very good at raising those. Beautiful colour as well, well done!
