G&G Frame Features

I'm exploring Greene and Greene Box and Frame features. This technique will be accompaning box fingers joints on the corners whether a box or a frame. There are subtle differences. For example.. How far the fingers stick out and some edges are radiused and some aren't. Look at A and B and kindly tell me which you prefer. Thanks!

Those are purty! I prefer "B".

B for me !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

I'm team "A"

B is too deep IMO, If you apply any finish that darkens, the exposed end grain around the plugs will probably become darker as the grain will absorb more that the face grain.
"A" could be set slightly deeper, just enough so the curves on the corners are just above the hole.

Of course that is based on the G&G style, plenty of places where the more flush "B" is appropriate.
Did any of you notice that the tongue corners on B are radiused and A isn't?
yes thats why i like b better.

Didn't notice that, "B" for the corners!
I think I’d prefer the plugs on ‘A’ but the corners on ‘B’, actually. To me, the raised plugs have a rounded effect that ties in with the radius edges. Just my take…

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Plugs on A
Radiused corners on B
Shorter finger extensions on A
I would soften the frame edges as well
I noticed the pillowed plugs on A, and I also noticed the rounded protruding tongues on B, so then, to quote a wise man:
"Plugs on A
Radiused corners on B
Shorter finger extensions on A
I would soften the frame edges as well"
I have a question to ask everyone:
Is every box finger joint suppose to have a plug?
You see them a lot on blanket chests.
But my fingers are only 1/2" wide. I think it will be overkill. I just started making this box for one of my saws.

Here's a plug tacked loosely in place. They are 1/4" plugs. Too much?

Yeah, kinda out of proportion. I think that would look fine with just the pillowed fingers you have now.
What do you think about one on the center pine finger and then one on either side on the two cedar fingers? Hmmmm.
That could work, but I think it'd look better if you scaled back the plug size, maybe 3/16"?
Yeah. But I just bought the 1/4". Dang!
Go for it! (nobody will criticize your saw box, I swear!)
You know what? I just drilled a 3/16 lipped brad point hole and used a 1/8 chisel to notch the corners. It worked beautifully. Mind you...making 20 of these this way on one box  may prove painful. But I'm not sure I'd use a 3/16 square punch that much to justify the cost. What to do... what to do!
