A blog entry with some wood in it... Fixing Drawer Fronts in a Hurry

Most of you will probably know this already, but there are probably a few amongst us who would appreciate a walk through of the simplest method of affixing drawer fronts yet to be devised by man.

With a hole bored for the knob, offer drawer front up to drawer box – I favour using bits of iron on veneer as spacers/shims to get the position correct, but you could use playing cards or whatever you have lying around, then simply screw through the knob hole to temporarily fix the df to the dB.

Once the df is temporarily affixed, you can bore pilot holes for the screws that will hold the df on forever…

Then remove the df. Every knob I have ever purchased comes with a small pan headed machine screw to hold it on, so to get the drawer front on the box flat, you have to make a recess in the dB for the screw head. This is easily achieved using a large drill bit or countersink. The hole to enlarge is already marked where you screwed the df on in the first place.

Then affix knob, and attach drawer front, and move on to next one.

Making the screw holes on the drawer box slightly larger than the screw will allow a little wiggle room for adjustment.
