Spinnekop #37: Zeilen

This is part 37 in a 37 part series: Spinnekop

The last thing i will have to make are the sails for the windmill.

These are one the drawing with a lot of details, but I'm not able to get all those details on a 1:10 scale. But never the less i will try to get as close as possible.
I will start wiht the fabric, some (very small) rope and a sewing machine.

After cutting the sails to the right dimensions i add a seam to the complete border

After that I add a rope around the perimeter of the sails

Adding a eye to every corner

Then adding binding to every eye to give them strength and shape

four eye's times four sails gives you a lot of practice

Making additional eyes for the "zwichtlijnen", the ropes used to fasten the sails and create half a sail.

Now all eye's need ropes so the sails can be secured on the wings

So i made splices to all the ropes.
Quite a challenge, my hands are to big for this!

Then finishing the ends of all the ropes

Getting a nice result

Adding the "zwichtlijnen" these ropes where even smaller

The last rope on the sails is called the "kikkerlijn", it is put behind small clamps on the wings.

I added these lines in place so they would fit perfectly

A look at the backside of the wing/sail

After finishing all four sails lets give them a spin(nekop)...

This concludes my blog post about the building of the spinnekop.

I have been following along.  It has been a very interesting build.
Your attention to detail continues to impress me!

This has been a very interesting blog.
Does this work or is it disappointing:
