Urban Ore #26: Stone Carver’s Rifflers

This is part 26 in a 35 part series: Urban Ore

These are stone carver’s rifflers, but unlike any that I have ever seen. Instead of having stitched teeth they have cut recesses along an edge. These look like they would be used to refine features on carved patterns/figures.

The organically curved one has two different radii on the curvatures on either end.

Cost me $9 a piece. So unique, I tried to use Google Lens to find out more information but couldn’t find an exact match. Never seen anything like these before.

I will be adding them to my collection of stone carving rifflers.

Still need cleaning up.

You can see how different they are from a normal set of stone carving rifflers with stitched teeth.

Would love to know more if anyone has any additional info.
Are they files that have been heated and bent or completely machined with the file surface?

Curved unit look like a 1500's dental tool 😱

Have you had a chance to try them out? Lots of marble faced buildings in your area I assume.

Either way, look perfect for fine tuning a lot of surfaces that would take way to long with just sanding sticks.
Jim, no idea — never seen anything like it
Splint, not yet, still cleaning them up
Wow, something incredible happened.

Today at Urban Ore, they pulled me aside to tell me that they owe me $9.

Turns out that pack of rifflers was to be sold for $9 total, not to be opened and individually sold for $9 a piece.

So when I opened the bundle and cherry-picked two that I wanted and handed them back 4, then paid $18, that was incorrect.

Today they gave me an option, and I took the remaining rifflers AND $9 off my next purchase.

So now I have these to clean up as well
Those bastads! 🤠
Seems you have built a great relationship with that place, hopefully you'll get a free access pass to their incoming inventory for a first look.
All those cool tools, and they're 400+ miles away from me. You're one lucky person!
