Gluten-free High-fiber Donut

I had a few white oak offcuts (or off-turnings) from another project I'm working on. Was wondering what I could do with them when a friend of mine told a story about her sister (who was a little bit crazy) sending her a piece of cake from Japan to the US. Apparently it was intact when it arrived at her house, but a month in the mail had allowed time for some mold and such to grow.

Anyway, I decided I could send her a wooden donut. It's gluten free, no carb, high-fiber, vegan, and best of all won't spoil in the mail!

White oak with fake frosting and clay sprinkles.

Mmmmm… donut!

This is so cool! How exactly did you make that?

Was good elsewhere and still is. Whimsical projects are good too.

Neat, humor in woodworking.
After a night of partying in my youth, I would probably have tried to eat that. Good job.  Mike
For a moment, I did a double-take.

“Wait, how did he turn a toroid?”

And after 30s, I surmised you must have used round-over bits on a ring? Is that how? You don’t have to divulge your secrets.

Nice donut!
Dutchman, I turned the “top,” then glued the top to a board with a layer of paper included, mounted that board to my face plate, turned the bottom, then popped the donut off with a chisel and sanded away the paper.

Thanks, Tom!

High fiber, Mike! Crunchy!

No round-over bits, Devin. Just glued it on backwards to get behind it. Did Al move all the turning on a face-plate. Thanks!

Dave,

That's pretty clever, but I think walnut, apple, pear, maple, or any number of other choices would be tastier than . . . oak?!

Agreed, LW. Oak was just what I had on hand at the time. Like making bread with AP flour, it’ll get the job done, but it might not be the best.

Hey Dave!!!
I seem  to recall hearing or seeing something about this idea....... makes me smile

That’s the goal, Earl. A little humor to lighten up the day.
