One of our urban chickens decided she's a ninja and likes to go walkabout to the neighbor's yard. She figured out how to parkour her way to the top of the fence, despite her wings being clipped, then skulks her way along until she can get into the other yard. I wanted to put her in the pot, but my wife is kinda fond of her…so I got some shop time to build something that's not too much of an eye sore. The mock up seemed to work well enough, so we'll see how this works out.

Reclaimed redwood, with hardwood dowels. Dowel jointed and finished with GF Exterior 450.

I'm with Pottz - still a great project and now we know it has done it's job.
A different type of project.

Main Street to the Mountains

More ‘functional yard art’ really…

Now that is funny ! You could always try to stop her with noodles and mashed potatoes...  Good job.  Mike
That was my suggestion Mike…I was vetoed…evidently these are pet chickens…

Heardin Chickuns. Gotta love it.
Neat project... some may call it canibalism from me... but I vote the pot!

Interested to hear if it tastes like snake.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Cool! A new wrinkle on the horn for me, not bad, I like it. Glad it works for you. Congrats.

Late to the show, but got a good chuckle out of this.
I tend to agree with your wife, not because of the pet status, but because your picture of the "culprit" looks too scrawny to be very tasty.
Might work as a cat deterrent also.

Ha! She’s a culprit alright…and is pretty much useless, but she does lay eggs pretty consistently, so I guess that’s something….

This is the first I am reading about this felonious fowl. The headline of “Ninja Chicken …” sure is grabbing, not to mention the image causing a huge question mark in my mind. Excellent work and sure looks nice.
Still working too! Although the new birds figured out a way around it that’s since been fixed.

Oh what a spoil sport, there may be a horny "duck" in the other yard.

nice construction though, ever thought of making harps?
Chuckle chuckle

Regards Rob

Chickens are crafty. I’m always amazed at the ways they come up with to cause chaos and/or try to kill themselves.

Great build and story Ryan!!!

Mike

Looks nice but I think the pot idea would have been the simplest.
Much simpler…

Good for you.  I am a chicken lover.  We use to have several. But when I was a kid we had chickens, I learned that when they quit laying it was time for the stew pot.  I did not have the heart for that so I ended up feeding several old retired laying hens.  Not too practical.  But one time when away from home a raccoon or something got into the pen and slaughtered  all the chickens.  Not for food just killed all and left.
