Hummingbird Houses

These Hummingbird houses measure from around 4.5" to 8" long. They can be used as Christmas ornaments or hung from just about anything. The body is made of cedar or walnut and the tops are made of multiple different species of domestic and exotic hardwoods. I strive to make each one a little different. I made about 15 of these, so I didn't post all of them.

I'm also using my new maker's mark and getting great reviews from others that have seen it.

Even though these are called Hummingbird houses, in actuality Hummingbirds do not nest in houses, they usually nest high up in trees. These are only decorative, and shouldn’t be used outside exposed to the weather. They should be fine under a porch overhang as long as they are not exposed directly to water. They have been treated with shellac and then finished with lacquer.

Sweet John, those are wonderful creations. and a good mix of styles, the use of different woods for the top is a great decorative addition. Well Done

Nice!
I looked into actual HB nest platforms and it seems they also like under the eaves. I've found blow down nests around the yard, wonder if they prefer in a house or out in the open...
Thanks Eric, I had fun coming up with different looks.

I have heard two stories about hummingbirds, one the nest boxes are not used and ones that say they use them. Makes you wonder, but it must have to do with placement. I also wonder if they would use a roosting next like a few other birds do.

nice work john. we had one making a nest in our backyard once.it was only about 4' off the ground. only made it half way and disappeared ! maybe a cat got it ? i thought it was funny it would make it so low to the ground.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Great looking selection. The one hanging in the vine is a really good picture. Thanks for showing and Welcome to Craftisian.  Good job !!!   Mike
Thanks guys, I'm no expert, but I see there are many offered for sale that infer Hummingbirds will nest in them. I looked it up and it would be rare.

Hope you charge premium rent for the decorated ones.

Love your take on bird houses... keep indoors away from the birds. I already have issues with birds inside the house...
in the eaves!  Why can't ones around my area stay in the trees... they just use the birdhouses others provide as an outdoor dunny.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

I love your designs!!

All look great but I really like the smallest one on the end of the lineup.
These are really cute. I showed them to my wife. I figured it would be safe since hummingbirds don't actually nest in them.
I was wrong.
Hummingbird houses are now on the list. 😁
Yes, someone saw them on FB, so they were already on my list.

Thank you Alex, Jim, Barb and Steve.
Alex I have a bird in my house also, but I charge him rent.

Barb, my wife liked that one best also, I guess women like that design.

Steve, you knew that was going to happen, now get to work. I can't wait to see them.

You too Eric. ;-)

That might take a while. My list is really long

And that is just the High & Very High priorities. The rest of the list is just as long, but are ones that I'll make if this list runs out 😁😁😁
