Outdoor Wood Storage Cabinet

This is a cabinet I needed to build to store my southwest wood out of the rain and sun. It has a square tubular  steel frame that I welded up in Michigan and brought down here and put wood on the corners and steel siding on it. The top is piece of MDF board with a skin of a refrigerator that I cut off a refrigerator at A-1 salvage in Casa Grande. I made the doors from  left over siding- most everything was free.
It is 72" long, 24" deep and 38" high. I coated it with opaque latex stain....................Cheers, Jim

Looks good, Jim! And the price was right, too.

May you have the day you deserve!

You are the best at repurposing and creating great projects!
Perfect little storage bin. Fits right in.

My neighbor is an appliance repair guy,  I always snatch his SS refer door skins when he replaces one for a customer.
I have about 3 of them just waiting to put on some bench tops.

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.

Well done, I hope rain wont hurth it.

Nice little storage cabinet Jim.

Good idea on the storage unit Jim. It will do its job. I've been thinking of building a similar unit behind the garage to hold logs and sawn lumber from logs to free up space in the shop.
You know you have too much wood when.....

Nice Jim, it appears to only be about 3' wide in the picture. Six feet is better 🙂

Thank you all for the nice comments. It has rained twice since I puts the doors on and it is dry inside.

Happy New Year to you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Cheers, Jim

Jim,

Nice wood storage shed. I great to find many of the old LJ's here.

Thanks, Dave. It looks like this will be my home now too! Losing our great LJ site was really sad!!

When I stumbled over LJ several years ago I was amazed by the group of people that were so willing to help solve problems for others.  Plus building beautiful projects in wood.  Nice to have a new woodworking forum.

Rained and hailed really hard in Oro Valley yesterday and today.

Hi Dave. I went to the sawmill yesterday to get some Osage Orange cut to thinner pieces and I bought some olive wood. It is really wet and muddy out there yet from the last rains. The air is so damp here that none of the water is evaporating very fast. We will have to meet when it is  warmer. Do you wan to go to the saw mill then? If so we can meet at the Bent Prop Saloon for lunch at then Eloy airport and watch the skydivers too.

Jim,

I have recently talked to Gene Howe and been conversing with Captain K through Lumber Jocks.
I am open to moving the meet up to warmer weather.  I do want to turn a bowl this year and the saw mill would be a good source to buy a chunk of wood.

Last year you said not to use one of the phone numbers I had called on, but now I have forgotten which one. does the one you want me to use end in 42 or 54?  I will remove the other from my phone.

Hi Jim,
Excellent idea and it looks great.
Very well made.
Regards......Cliff.
Thanks, Cliff! I am in there almost every day getting wood or stashing more wood..

Hi Dave. That phone number ending in 42 is the land line in Grand Rapids. The 54 number is my wife's phone number that we use most of the time here and probably the best one to use. I have a new phone and I don't keep it on me......just use when traveling away from home base. It is 616 840 1117. I think it would be better to go when it is warmer and drier.

Hi Dave. John has a lot of bowl blanks already cut round on shelves at the saw mill. Lots of species to choose from.

Hi Dave. That will be great. I met Gene at the saw mill a few years ago and he has been back buying wood a few more times. John give a real good deal on wood. I went to a wood warehouse up in Phoenix and they have mesquite at $21 a board foot
