LIDDED BOX FROM NEIGHBOURS TREE BRANCH

Greetings,
This is a Small Lidded Box made from a branch that a neighbour gave me some time back.  So it should be nice and dry now.
I am not really sure what tree it came from, but it is very heavy and has a very tight grain.  The knob was turned from another piece of the same wood.  I drilled a hole in the top of lid.  Then after turning the Knob with a tenon it was coated with Tite Bond 3 and pushed into the hole...there was so much compression that popped right out again.....so I put a weight on top to hold it.
I dressed it up with a Skew Chisel to mark it with those rings.  ( I was showing Off)  as I had never really used a Skew Chisel before.  I had been a bit cautious of the Skew Chisel.  But now having used it, I really like the Skew Chisel and it is quite safe so long as the presentation to the stock is Safe.
I hollowed out the base with a forstener bit and cleaned up the insides with a Bedan Tool and a Round Nosed Scraper. Maybe a square nosed Scraper would have been better.
The Box is 4 1/2 inches High from the Top of The Knob to the Base.
Diameter is 4 1/4 inches.
Inside Depth is 2 1/4 inches.
The inside Base is lined with Red Felt.
2 Coats of Polyurethane, sanded lightly between coats.
1 coat of wax and buffed by hand with an old cloth.

Kind regards......Cliff.

BOONBY (Branch Out Of Neighbour's Back Yard)

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Your quite right.....But it sounds good....Quite Intellectual.
I could look very wise and say...."Yes its definitely a "Boonby"

Nice little bowl Cliff, a simple shape and the lines add just enough. Well done.

Good work Cliff. I have quite a few Boonby's also. I like the lines too, they give off more character.
Nicely done, Cliff! Nice clean lines, and it looks like a good fit to the lid.

Thanks Dave,  the lines were fun to make.

Thank you Peter.
That is very encouraging.

Good looking, I am just now using a skew more. I had a really bad catch using one when I first started out. I was too aggressive and paid for it.  Mike

Thanks Mike.
I agree,  the Skew  can look very scary  and a catch with a Skew happens so quickly.
