Greetings,
This is a Small Lidded Box made from a branch that a neighbour gave me some time back. So it should be nice and dry now.
I am not really sure what tree it came from, but it is very heavy and has a very tight grain. The knob was turned from another piece of the same wood. I drilled a hole in the top of lid. Then after turning the Knob with a tenon it was coated with Tite Bond 3 and pushed into the hole...there was so much compression that popped right out again.....so I put a weight on top to hold it.
I dressed it up with a Skew Chisel to mark it with those rings. ( I was showing Off) as I had never really used a Skew Chisel before. I had been a bit cautious of the Skew Chisel. But now having used it, I really like the Skew Chisel and it is quite safe so long as the presentation to the stock is Safe.
I hollowed out the base with a forstener bit and cleaned up the insides with a Bedan Tool and a Round Nosed Scraper. Maybe a square nosed Scraper would have been better.
The Box is 4 1/2 inches High from the Top of The Knob to the Base.
Diameter is 4 1/4 inches.
Inside Depth is 2 1/4 inches.
The inside Base is lined with Red Felt.
2 Coats of Polyurethane, sanded lightly between coats.
1 coat of wax and buffed by hand with an old cloth.
Kind regards......Cliff.
