Salt, Pepper and Oil Caddy

My daughter-in-law asked me to make her something to hold salt, pepper and oil. I had a scrap of walnut that I thought might work for this project. It was an odd shape, it tapered from 3/4" to about an 1/8" in thickness. The dotted line is how it had to be cut in order to have enough thickness to resaw and get 2 panels for the front and back. I used some cherry for the sides and it has an oak bottom and padauk splines. I used brass rods to separate the items. I used a rasp and sandpaper to make faux natural edges. I finished it with BLO and a few coats of lacquer.

A great rustic design, and you nail the faux edge, the brass rods are a nice touch. Well done.

That is a great looking piece Jon!
Panels look excellent with the edging and that walnut is extra special, goes well with your counter, hopefully your DIL has as nice a setting for it 🙂
Worked out really well.   Nice use of the Walnut.
