2nd iteration of this multi-sided box

Another project moved over from LJs that I made in 2018.

I had a few leftover pieces from my last build and wanted to make another box with a few changes. Like cutting the sides into a decagon shape. I changed the handle and used a slightly different design for the hinge. But the biggest design change is the use of finish nails as a design element as well as being structural.

The bottom half of the box has the nails used as dowels to hold the sides more securely, but I didn't want them to show on the inside so I cut them just short of going through the walnut sides on the top half. I had to come up with a way to hammer them in, but not damage the surface when cutting them to size. I drilled a hole in a thin piece of oak and used it as a guard when cutting the nails with my dremel.

That is really nice. I like the brass rod accent inlays on the end caps.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

I do like that... Is the 4th picture the one with the foam, it that the hinge... Could you explain that.  I am make each of my immediate family little desk clocks.  Trying to think of something different for my youngest grandson... He is 12. a   A similar 12 sided box, on side for each hour would be unique.  The clock insert in one end and the addition of a box to put keepsakes in.... Wonder is I have the skills to pull that off.
Looked good then and still a winner.   Nicely done

Great box John, someone else that tries to build multiple sided boxes. Well done.

Nicely done!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

I'm sorry I forgot to mention the hinge. My wife had some old pocketbooks that were suede leather. I used the leather to make the hinge. It works exceptionally well, the box closes so you can't see the seem.
