Winged Frog

This is what I call a Winged Frog because of the shape and the steel frog set in the middle. [The Frog is used for holding cut flowers upright  in water with the pins sticking into the stems].
It is made from Box Elder, with just a tinge of red. The center of the base is walnut. It is what is left of the spigot I glued in to be able to hold this piece. The original piece was too thin to do what I wanted so I had to improvise. The wings were laid on with a template and cut on the bandsaw. The edge was painted to go along with the accent ring on the top

 Finish is semi-gloss Deft.

It was given away as a gift.

This block was laying around in the barn for years and It said  " Pick me ,Pick me"  so it became the heart of this project.

This is another carry over from the old site so it is documented here.

Interesting design Jim.
Besides being decorative the wing would prevent it tipping over if the bouquet got top heavy.
Thanks, Les!
