Cutting Board

This is a cutting board made from Osage Orange and walnut that is gift from my friend in Illinois who has just acquired a stack of some dry cherry wood for me. We have gotten Osage Orange before by his farm so I thought this was fitting wood for the board.

The board is 7/8" x 9" x  12" and is finished with Walrus Oil cutting board wax ( First time I tried it)

Nice orange color, not familiar with Walrus oil finish, it looks nice.

Nice cutting board...Great colours in the combination of wood.

Very pretty!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Should hold up very well as the Osage is some tough stuff, love the clean shape!

Never heard of that oil before, do you have some Eskimo street corner dealer where you can buy that? 😀
Thank you all for the nice comments!!

Hi David and Bruce. I saw someone here or on LJ's that was using it and so I had to give it a try. I've had it for a year but had not made any cutting boards for quite a while. It makes the surface feel really good, being a wax, but it does not have the sheen like I get when I buff them on the lathe with Tripoli, white diamond and Carnuba wax.

That came out nice Jim. I have some Osage Orange, but everytime I try using that species on my lathe, I get chip out like crazy.

Thanks, John. On Osage, you need real sharp tools and do a lot of sheer scraping ( real fine cuts ) for finishing. Some times  if you wet the  wood it cuts cleaner and then sand when dry. I do that when threading a lot because it will tear out out v - threads  when dry.
