Branding Iron Rest/Storage

I made a branding iron storage.

I wanted to try resawing a board to start a project (It's just a small board to begin with).
The board ended up a little thinner than I expected but I somehow managed to do it!

For about 1/4" thickness of wood, I feel comfortable cutting a dovetail but I tend to over-run a marking knife. One part, not just over-run but I even left a knife mark on where I didn't want to. This one is just a shop storage but I have to be careful.

I also get to like making a box but I know my boxes are very basic/simple so I have to learn more about how to do fancy details. It'll be a long way but I think I can enjoy.

----------

It was roughly 3/4" x 5" x 14".

I rip the board first to resaw it.

As the board was 9/32" thickness after resawing, the joints weren't difficult to cut.

Since the lid is just sitting on top of the box ( I cut the edge of the lid and the box 45degrees to fit in), I ended up using a bento box band to keep the lid to store.

Good work!
I'm still using the cardboard shipping box 😟
Again unique and good design.     Like the use of proportionate wall thickness to the overall size of the box.  Well done.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Splinter, Thank you! and I know you keep the cardboard shipping box in a nicely made box, haha:)

Ron, Thank you. I'm happy to hear it from a good craftsman!

Pottz, Thank you! I need more practices to handle thicker wood.

I like how you can resaw a board by hand, cut fine dovetails and make it all come together as a cohesive piece.

The metal rest bar was a great idea because those irons get hot.

I enjoyed your video. What did you use to film it?

James McIntyre

Good project!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Well done, Yrti, and a good little project for storage of the iron.

Nicely done, and great idea. Just got done watching the video. I will say, it's funny you just made this box this way... I actually have one I just finished up last night. I made it in a somewhat similar way (resawn board and partially mitered) lol

Nicely done, YRTi! Good use of that single board.

May you have the day you deserve!

James, Thank you, The brass bar worked well!

About the video, for the intro/outro, I used the same camera as I usually take photos of my products, which is an old mirrorless camera (not sure what it is). For other scenes, I use my iPhone, which is the 2nd hand from my wife.

RyanGi, Thank you!

Eric, Thank you! I should be the next Dave:)

Mos, thank you for watching the video! It was actually a practice to improve my overall woodworking skills. I just found making something from resawing is kind of satisfying!! Looking forward to seeing your box soon!

Dave, thank you! I just mentioned your name in the response to Eric. Whenever I make an organizing storage, your name stuck in my head, haha:)

Thanks, YRTi! It’s a good way to build skills, too! Glad to see you resawing, which is a good way of making your materials go farther, as well as enabling you to work smaller. And if I’ve inspired you, that makes me happy.

May you have the day you deserve!

Nice little box, I think it came out great.
