Chuck Box

This is a woodworking and metalworking project. I bought this 3 jaw chuck and fitted it with backing plat with a 1"-8 do I could turn soft metal things - and round wood- in our wood lathe in the Arizona shop. then I fitted it with a 36 hole index ring so I could do some accurate indexing in that lathe as well.
Then I had to made box to carry it with the chuck key and the reverseable jaws. The box is made from 6 pieces of 1/2"  Baltic birch plywood that was lock mitered on all edges and glued together. Then I cut the curve to split the top and bottom. Added a handle , hinges and a hasp and it is good to go. I made it back in '21 and carry it back and forth every year. I have occasions to use it in my Nova lathe here in Grand Rapids too.

Great storage Jim. I have one of the Nova chucks with 3 separate jaw sets, it sits in the plastic box when not in use. Well done.

Nice, Jim!

I need to figure out a way to do an indexed chuck on my lathe one of these years.

May you have the day you deserve!

Nice design, all associated items fit quite nicely.
Really nice, seems like a tool that nice surely needs a suitable case.  You put some details in this case from handle, to curved lid to fit of tools, really well done, impressive work.

Nice design for the chuck.    Well done.   Like the S on the top to bottom.

Nicely done! Smart to move it safely.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Well done Jim! I've drawn up plans for storing my 3-jaw system but for now all the pieces are in a plastic bin (with a lid).
Thank you all for the nice comments. I had an occasion to use the chuck today!

Petey, I keep an index card in the Nova case that list the sizes of both the mortise and the tenon (min an max) becasus I can never remember.

Thanks, Petey.
Hi Eric I have made many go/ no-go gages for my 4 jaw wood chucks  to quickly determine the max and min for the mortise and tenon made to fit the chuck. Here is one of mine from Lumberjocks: I use it all the time!
