Tool Chest

I used woodsmith’s plan and I would do some things differently mainly the door guides. I made it with quartersawn white oak with age oak stain.

Nice! Got to love QSWO. Are those drawer pulls from Gerstner?

I got them from Amazon 12 for $8.99. I searched 1/2” brass knobs .
Nice job, it will probably last for generations. I've always liked the looks of them, but I never had the type tools that would need something like that.

Nice tool chest! Does the top lift up?
Yes I don’t have the chain yet or the felt for the drawers.
Great looking tool chest, I need to get around to making one of those someday.

Thanks! Gerstner gets a bit more money. These look good!

Looks great!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Really nice tool chest.   Should be a great place to keep those special things.

Great chest.
I always thought about making one but I know I wouldn't use it and I don't know anyone who would either.
Yes it’s ok but I’m going to make another one to my specs closer Gershner design. I made this just for the challenge not for use. The quartersawn white oak cost me $2 a board . I have more money wrapped up in hardware than wood. I have maybe $40 total cost. My wife could always use it for jewelry.
That is one beautiful Tool Chest and the grain pops. Well done. It almost looks like it has a flat surface that pulls out above the top drawers.

I have used a few Woodsmith plans and have made my own modifications to suit my needs, but they do have some neat plans. I have a High Vise on the build list, magazine is sitting on the shop desk.

Main Street to the Mountains

I've built several chests over the years, riffing off the Gerstner design for most of them. One thing I will say is that their hardware is great, but it's quite spendy. To buy the handles, corners, lock and drawer pulls will set you back hundreds of dollars.

Here's an example in black Walnut-

And one in QSWO that I used a water-based finish on and am not really happy with it.
