Suet Feeder (Take II)

Another project for the birds. A Upside Down Suet Feeder, Cedar finished with Howard's. Base is 8" square and stands 7-1/2" with basket.

I designed this one so the basket hangs from the bottom, (good for the smaller birds, and keeps the large birds out, so they say). Also the basket can be removed from the bottom, there is a pin to unlock the frame, then the frame tilts up and pulled out of the bottom.

2 cleats on the left side hold the basket frame, 1  cleat on the right flush with the bottom.

Pin locks to the top of the frame, holding the basket in place.

It works good and holds the basket in place and it can't be pushed up, and the cleats that are flush with the bottom keep it from falling out.

Thanks for looking and comments are always welcome and appreciated.

Note: I might have enough Cedar drops to make one birdhouse.

Corelz, thanks. I'm getting these feeders down now.

I was talking to a guy last night about feeders. He asked if I could make one the closes off when there is too much weight on it. Preventing larger birds and squirrels from getting the seed. That will be some engineering and a challenge but thinking about it and have an idea.

Eric, you have been feeding so many birds, I haven't seen a bird in my bird bath this week.
Nice job on the feeders, can't wait to see what you come up with to foil the squirrels.
If you've never seen this interesting video by Mark Rober, it is amazing what squirrels can figure out.

John, thanks. Cool video, seems like the guy has to much time on his hands. But interesting and gives me a few ideas. Liked the rolling bar.

Steve, thanks. Just an afternoon playing with the blocks of scrap, while a glue up was drying for another project.

Jim, thanks. I was reading that some of the smaller birds like Nuthatches' will use a type of feeder like this. And it keeps the bully types of birds away.

Ivan, thanks. Time will tell if it works like it should.

Tony, thanks. Yep, the party is on, I hung them on Sunday and so far just one visitor, a Wren was checking out the Tray feeder last night. I think I may have a squatter; he was going up inside the top looking for a place to roost.

OldRivers, thanks. Just tinkering in the shop and sharing the ideas I come up with. Folks may want to give them a try themselves.

Kenny, thanks. Think I'm about done with feeders for a while, plus I only have a few short drops of Cedar left.

Nice job Eric - the birds will be living better than you are soon :)

Mike, thanks. Still waiting for them to start attacking them for the seed.
