Salt Cellar with Scoop

Fun project to turn. 3" diameter and 5-1/2" high turned from Hard Maple with a Cherry Scoop. Nothing fancy just a simple turning, finished with Danish Oil on the outside followed by multiple coats of Minwax Wipe on Poly. The scoop measures 1/2 teaspoon.

I think it was Les that had turned one with a little scoop.

Thanks for looking and comments are always welcome and appreciated.

love it eric, but most chefs wont use a scoop, they take a pinch with their fingers to control the amount of salt delivered. i do the same.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Pottz, thanks. That may be true, but the scoop looks neat.

Is that a scoop or a pipe? Waddya got in that cellar??

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Eric,

A bit of skilled turning I see.  Very cool

Looks Great Eric.

To scoop or pinch either way it is a nice turning and looks good.   Like it.

Ron

Ryan, thanks. I never tell.

Petey, thanks. the turning was easy. as for the scoop I turned the bowl off the end of a block and before parting it off completely drilled for the handle on the press, between centers on the handle. I cut the slot by hand and used files to clean it up.

Iven, thanks. Maybe a set is in the future.

OldRivers, thanks. A fun time on the lathe.

Ron, thanks. I might make a few of these without the scoop. Maybe a thicker wall to support a post so the lid pivots.

Jim, thanks. I have fun turning this one, no shape in mind when I started.

Old Tool, thanks. I have been getting into more turnings lately, always looking for ideas.

Well done!  I like the design of all three pieces....

Very cool idea Eric. I like the magnet to hold the scoop.

Nice looking cellar Eric.
I appreciate some credit for the scoop idea and the magnet to hold it. I like you version of the scoop better.
My wife, daughter, and a couple of friends who have them all use the scoop and not their fingers.
Mike, thanks. Something simple to turn.

John, thanks. When I turned the scoop it ended up a little off balance had to do something.

Les, thanks. I did not go back and look at yours, just remembered you had done one with a scoop and I thought it was neat. So I gave it a try.

Steve, thanks. Trying to prefect my turning skills.

Tell the truth Lofty... it's really a dry bong!

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

We shall go with that LBD.
