Keepsake Box

This box measures 8.5”x 6”x 3”. I used cherry for the top and feet, and fumed them to age the wood. The sides are canary wood and maple. I like the way proud or flush box joints look when different woods are laminated together before cutting the box joints.
I used some leather on the floor of the box that is removable if preferred . Don't know what type of wood the bottom of the box is ,but I have more of it and I think it’s attractive.
For a finish I used some danish oil before spray lacquer.

Another great one John  👍

The layers are a neat trick, lots of visual. Gave me a smile seeing how you chamfered all those protrusions 🤠 The extra effort is a nice refinement.

I've tried fuming cherry samples, but never proceeded to the finish. Seems the same as with white oak, looks kinda drab until the finish is applied.
Well done, like the corners.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Great looking box. The woods that you used and the proud corners really make it stand out. Excellent job.
Like the unique take on the box joints.  Nicely done!
Beautiful work! Nice details. I was not aware that cherry could be fumed. It looks great!

Thanks Bruce. I made a little jig to hold the panels vertical so I could cut all the champers on my router table. I thought there were too many of them to try and get to look all the same doing it with s sanding stick.

Thank you Larry. I think I’ll go with a greater contrast next time I do another box with laminated corners.

Thanks Mel, the canary wood is subtle, but the fumed cherry came out real nice.

Thanks Steve, yes cherry has plenty of tannins and fumes well. I used to get the industrial strength years ago, but the 99¢ grocery store ammonia works just fine.
