Curly Birch Coat Rack

Spotted this at the BORG many years ago and bought it for future use. The future has arrived. Wild curl in this plank. Bad tear-out that I was fortunately able to remove with my drum sander. That wood is hard! Finished with 2 coats of Minwax Helmsman "Teak Oil", which really popped the figure.

yeah nice grain. every once in awhile you can find some good wood at the box.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice grain!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Wow - great find and nicely used in this project.  What method did you use to mount it on the wall?  I need to build something similar for hanging caps.  Was thinking of using keyhole slots.
Thanks, folks! I have a sickness with wood. I've squirreled away a whole bunch of figured stuff that I'd better use before I die (that's not expected anytime soon).
I sank anchors into the wall and put the outer coat hooks over the mounting screws.

Nice work. I'm glad I'm not the only one that squirrels wood away and doesn't have a plan for it right away.
Nicely   done,  as has been said, nice grain.

Thanks, guys! I'd love to take the credit for that grain. Sadly, Mother Nature has the controls. As for figured wood, I discovered the mother lode of superbly curly maple craft wood at 1/4" thick at a local store, at less than 1/3 what the wood boutiques sell it for. I swooped in and bought all the really nice pieces, only to have them deform into all kinds of non-interesting shapes. I've had them under pressure for years, and they're finally starting to yield.

Great idea to use the hooks to make the mounting screws disappear.

And, I think having "extra" figured pieces around is simply good planning!  Better to be ready than to be lacking what you need for a project.
Beautiful! The craftsmanship is excellent but as you say Mother Nature takes top billing with that gorgeous figure 😂
Thanks!
