Sandpaper Chest

Using up some of the wood I have around here. Drawers are 1/2" oak and some 1/4" Baltic birch ply I was going to make blinds from. The carcass is mystery wood that I bought at the Habitat ReStore for $5 per 1" X 12" X 8'. I bought three. I thought they were oak, by the color. But the wood is really light. Those drawer pulls are overkill, but they were the cheapest I could find. Should've just drilled finger holes. The "shelves" for the drawers are 1/8" hardboard. No finish, held together with drywall screw. I did use Minwax water based spar varnish on the drawers. I may put a face frame on it to cover the shelf dados. Just something to take a day and bash it out.

I think the box overall looks nice. I agree the handles are a bit too prominent. Half moon finger pulls would have blended better.
I thought about making a sandpaper box but don't use sandpaper much and have no real space on my bench.
great looking chest DK.  i dont use sheet paper so not something that i would need.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Thanks, guys. What do you use in lieu of sandpaper, Pottz?

I'd love to have something like that, but I "inherited" a bunch of these:

They are nice and a good size for sandpaper, but a bit deep (wasted space).

I've got tons of sheets, but I rarely use any. For me it's all ROS and drum sander. Not much into the meat powered sanders, but I do end up doing that.
Nice build. I had something a little similar, but not as nice. Ended up repurposing it because I rarely hand sand with anything other than 220 and 320/340 anymore. And I’ve got dedicated blocks for that. Everything else is motorized or done with a rasp or a scraper!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks, guys! I have two ROS.
