The last week I saw some pinch sticks here on CF. Thanks for the idea! A tool that I did not have yet but which is often needed. I was not satisfied with my prototype I made last week and today I had time to make a new set of two. This pinch stick model is considerably simplified but extremely suitable for what I want to do with it. Size adjustment only requires one knob to loosen and tighten. Hopefully the photos below make it clear what I mean. Made out of Beech and treated with BLO.
This makes me wonder. With that slot, maybe some slightly thicker squares that are beveled on the ends. Slip them in the slot and they can side back/forth into the measuring positions. Tight enough to not fall out but still slide.
Absolutely works, and for tightening if you need them to be really snug, that method will hold tighter. Only thing I would change, and this just for my huge paws is bigger knobs. I have a hard time with smallish knobs. Seeing that the knobs are just hanging in the air, size wouldn't matter, except easing the tightening, loosening.
These pinch sticks look very interesting but what are they used for? I have never seen or heard of them before, maybe I need them but just don't know yet. Nice job and thanks for sharing.
Nice shopmade take on these handy gizmos Duitchy... and a well detailed build sequence.
My only concern was with the "rotary knob".. though yours doesn't look that big... You U'peans and those Yanks, sure get access to a lot of hardware us poor, unfortunate, isolated, neglected (feeling sorry for us yet) Aussies don't get access to.
We can only get those "big bulky" small knobs and the knurled knobs are rarer than hens teeth or the brass duck brains... luckily I have a few... brass knobs. Though I did manage to pick up some low profile knurled knobs somewhere off the Internet a few years ago... no idea where. For size comparison,
Yes you need to make some too, otherwise you will be blocked here 😜

You can use the knobs whatever you like, o and BTW tightened is tightened 😉
