Woodlathe dusthood

For my lathe I made a dusthood from plywood and some hardware. In my opinion, a lot of text makes this less clear than the photos below. But it is always possible to post a question in the comments.

Nice dust catcher. I love tools made from wood!

Nice, Dutchy.  I've been thinking about making something similar and thinking about the design.  I would like one a little longer but I wonder if it would really suck in that much from the far end so i was considering putting a grill  or something at the hose end at least that would help extend how much air has to come in along its length and especially at the opposite end.

Nice dust hood! I like it…

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

I'm a liken your VERY versatile mounting method.

I made mine from some 6" or 8" pipe I grabbed off a buddy's farm discard pile. I was no longer trustworthy for irrigation, but worked fine for this.

Mine is on an adjustable stand, which sits on the floor.  I'd like to make it even more adjustable, to make it easy to follow my knives with quick adjustments.

Looks good.

I soooo need to make one of these!
Nice Dutchy. I agree pics say a LOT, good job.

Doing this and adding any of the commercially available DC elements/fittings can make it so that doing some form of DC can be made for a lot of tools, and many of them in a lot of different ways. So long as the housing is behind the biggest flow of dust, it is going to help. By moving, or adding, additional parts and pieces it can increase efficiency. Thing is when you hit the sweet spot it doesn't need "testing" all of a sudden the dust pile is gone. Makes ya smile to see it happening right in front of your nose.
Their is precision even in your jigs Dutchy, great result 👍

For the lathe, in addition to the hood at the back, I want to (project number 3,251) Y the hose and put a pickup just below and in front of the working piece.

As it is, having a hood makes a huge difference in fine dust issues.

Another thing I'm going to do is, install the clear shower curtains from the ceiling. A friend gave me conduit, four pieces with the sweeping 90's already on them, so I can hang them from the ceiling and slide them open, if I want.  This should address a lot of the stuff that wants to spread out in front of the lathe in that it should hit the curtain and drop.

Wifey gave me four clear curtains from swap out on the shower (she washes them a few times, then tosses them when water stains build up to the point they annoy her).
