I have been asked to show what I use for buffing and waxing wood projects on my wood lathe so here it goes:
I bought 3 8" buffing wheels and the compound for each from The Beall Buffing Company. They sell the system with a 4" long arbor and I wanted to be further away from the head stock with some of big pieces I buff...so I made an 8" long mandrel and mount the wheels on the end using a 1/2" bolt through the center of the wheels I originally made the mandrel for my old Craftsman lathe with a 1" -8 spindle. Now that I have the Nova lathe with the 1 1/4"-8 spindle I made an adapter so I use it on either spindle ( last photo).
The first wheel used is with Tripoli, The 2nd is White Diamond and the 3rd is Carnuba wax. I run them at 1700 RPM.
It is a very good system and give good results if I first coat with Danish oil or buff raw wood.
Cheers, Jim
ps I got introduced to the system when I met Mr, Beall's daughter, who was displaying her work at the Art Show in Tubac , Arizona
