Flying Ducks

Nothing really new here as this frame was based on my smaller pagoda tile frames I used for practice.

I remember these porcelain tiles hanging in my parents house all my life. Not sure if they were wedding gifts or how they obtained them, but certainly pre mid 1960's based on photos and such.

I've had them for years and never did anything with them. Upon rediscovery in the shop, I figured they better be framed before they succumb to entropy.
They were framed on two separate plain rectangular panels which I decided to combine into one for whatever reason.
Some research showed they were hand painted and made by the "CDGC" company in Japan.

The frame is cherry which should darken up nicely based on the color of the stock before machining. Each panel is 6"w x 24" tall.
I decided to add some patinated copper accents top/bottom.

The inner divider is white oak, finish is Osmo Polyx.

Frame with the tiles is quite heavy!

What a beautiful way to preserve the tiles!  As always, the attention to every detail is evident.
Great refurb! I’ve got an old stained glass panel from my mom that I need to do something similar to.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

That's one to be proud of. Nice work!!

Thanks everyone!
Best thing is just getting those tiles out of my hair and onto someone who can appreciate them.
very cool Splint....Very creative, well done

I like it!!  I have a couple Yashiko Yamamoto prints that would look great in a frame like this.  The curved top caught my eye.  It's very subtle but adds so much to the look.
you have a real knack for creating frames that highlight the artwork. well done my friend.

Beautiful work, the curved top really gives it an Asian feel, perfect for the tiles.

Good to see the relos cop it... Usually it's me that gets framed for everything.
That's where the name originated... when accused my standard reply was, "NOT this Little Black Duck!"

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Very nice SplinterGroup! It's unique and readily captures the eye.
Thanks again everyone!

I figured the title would attract ducks! Dunno, but when assembled and photo'd, the ducks were being peaceful. Now for some reason after LBD darkens the thread, they all look a bit distressed 🤔
Maybe these Japanese ducks know something about their Southern neighbors being invaded in the past?
That's really nice!

Excellent use of these tiles, this is beautiful wall art to decorate any room.
Well, I'm looking so maybe the ducks will settle down a bit.😉
