This keepsake box is made from black walnut. It features an integral turned ring on the bottom of the box that gives it the floating appearance. It also had an integral hinge in the back connecting the back to the lid. There are 4 maple splines that serve as supports for the tray. It is 5" x 5" x 5" and finished with Danish oil and buffed and waxed

Gorgeous!  Neat design. Walnut is always a great choice.
Very nice Jim! I particularly like the curved lid.
Wow! There's a lot of nice details in a small package. Well done!
Nice! You get a lot more done than I do, that's for certain!

Thank you all for the nice comments.

Hi Rick, I started with a tenon on top of the lid. They I cut a mortise on the underside of the lid and turned off the tenon and curved the lid on the lathe. I like to get some turning in -  even on the flat work pieces!! I did not show the bottom, but it has a turned ring  on it to make it look floating. I stared with a tenon on the top of the bottom on that part of it.
