This project combines my passion for oil painting, sculpture, woodworking and metal working. I picked a few of my favorite artists and painted some of their paintings on these stylized birds I made. The outer frame and the birds bodies are made from mahogany and the birds tails are made from hard maple.
I coated the birds with more than 5 coats of gesso and sanded between coats before I painted them.
Getting ready to stretch the canvas on the frame I built.
The birds feet are glued to the branch using epoxy after I sanded the branch and the underside of their feet.
The first member that names all 10 artist who’s paintings are painted on the birds will be awarded 3 stars. 🎉😊
Thanks for taking the time to view and read my project. Comments are always welcome.
That's beautiful! I like little birds and would like to have a flock of waxbills. Wife doesn't like the mess they make. Maybe I should make a flock like you have. I do know that these are not waxbills.
I’ll start with Dr Quackner’s comment. Thanks Doc. I have no idea what I did to post the project twice. Can’t delete it. And for the lack of wings on the birds I would say they’re not going anywhere anytime soon.
Thank you Steve R.
Thanks Dark_Lighting. It would to see a flock of Waxbills. No these are not Waxbills they’re just your average Classic Birds. 😊
Dark_Lighting. I was looking at your projects and you’re more than capable of carving waxbills. A flock on a branch or a tree would be great. They are so beautiful and so cute. At the beginning of my project I was going to paint 10 different bird species on the birds until I got the idea of painting some of my favorite artists paintings on them.
To add, I like your presentation with the clouds and so forth so much that if I do make something like that I wouldn't post it for fear of being accused of plagiarism. Maybe I can find a different scene, like maybe the birds are on a wire. We'll see.
Dark_Lightning. I know I wouldn’t accuse you. It would be flattering if somebody copied it. Thank You. The birds on a wire sounds great. You can even add a telephone pole or two. I also painter the birds sides and backs.
That’s a great idea Dark_Lighting. I was going to have mine look like the branch was growing out of the frame. I decided this was like a surrealist painting because you don’t see birds with famous artists painting on them so why not have a brand floating in the sky.
