James McIntyre’s Classic Birds

This project combines my passion for painting, sculpture, woodworking and metalworking. I picked a few of my favorite artists and painted some of their paintings on these stylized birds I made. The birds and the outer frame I made from mahogany. The birds tails are made from hard maple. I named it with my name because if you search James McIntyre’s classic birds this project will come up.
The size of this project with frame is 23”h x 38”w x 4” deep.
Getting ready to stretch the canvas on the frame I built.

A bird in the hand.

The branch was dried out for over 18 months, then polyurethaned. It was sanded where the birds feet were epoxied.

Thanks for taking the time to view and read my project. Comments are always welcome.

Anyone that names all ten artist who’s paintings are painted on the birds first will be awarded 3 gold stars. 👍😊

Nice James!
Your painting abilities have always been exceptional and the renditions are spot on as I recognized many of them
Certainly not something you see everyday, which kinda adds to the cool factor. Nice work James. Great pic post. Stories to tell when people see it too, so it is effective from a lot of directions
very creative, not many that could combine all the elements you did into one project. nice tutorial too.

Thank you Pottz. Maybe I’ll turn this one into a new project by editing it. There’s a lot of work I left over there.

A work of art!

Really creative.  I recognize some of the paintings but don't know the artists names.

Van Gogh, Monet is all I got.

Beautiful piece and wonderful homage to the original artists who are from left to right:

1   Girl with a Pearl Earring                                         Jannes Vermeer
2   The Starry Night                                                    Vincent van Gogh (easily the most famous)
3  The Persistence of Memory                                  Salvadore Dali  (a personal favorite of mine)
4   Upward Throw Pillow                                            Wassily Kandinsky
5   Water Lilies                                                             Claude Monet
6   Composition in red blue yellow and black            Piet Mondrian
7   The False Mirror                                                      Rene Magritte
8  Arearea                                                                    Paul Gauguin
9   Portrait of Anna Zborowska                                  Amedeo Modigliani
10 Women and Bird in the Night                             Joan Miro (for the birds)

Huh? Whadaya mean it ain't "measure once cut twice"?

Thanks Petey. At least you got Two without looking them up.

That was great Mike. Not only did you name the artist but the titles of the paintings too. Well Done. Here’s your stars. You should get 10 Stars!
Next I was going to award 3 stars to the first person to guess the titles of the paintings so I’m awarding you 3 more.

You must have good knowledge of the arts. You must be very proud. 👍😊
