Arts And Crafts Style Wall Clock With Greene And Greene Ebony Plugs

This clock was originally made without the ebony plugs and was featured on other websites.

Splinter said his clocks were inspired by something about my clock but if you look at his you’ll see it’s really his own design and a good one too.
I thought if Splinters clocks looked good with ebony plugs mine would look great. So there Splinter.😏

I set my drill press stop and drilled the holes in the clock where the plugs were to go.

As I was drilling and banging on the clock I could hear its little heart still beating (tick talk) and I was hoping he would survive the operation. 😥

I knew I was taking a chance and I could ruin the clock or break the glass, but I did it anyway. 😬

After I drilled the holes I cut the square parts out of it with a 3/8” hollow mortise tool, and 3/8” and 1/4” hand chisels.

And it worked. 🤗. Below I’m applying pure Tung Oil from LeeValley with a Q Tip.

Yes, I remember this one too. Nice proportions with that wonderful QSWO lumber. It just looks "right." The ebony plugs are a great added detail.  Well done.  Thanks for posting. Really like your work...
Thanks Pottz.

And thank you Tim. And I really like your work too.

Classic look.... beautiful
Nice clock made nicer with plugs. I put ebony plugs in a counter top I built many years ago. And I'm digging that QSWO figure, myself.

Thanks for the flashback James!

I've sold my pair long ago, that face design was the kicker for me, a perfect go-together.

Good choice with the plugs and the success in the install. Gives it the pinned tenon look that makes G&G unique.
Thank you Jim J.

awesome job. I’ve got one of those on my list.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Gorgeous. I remember the original. The ebony “kicks it up a notch.”
Splinter. You’re welcome for the flashback. So it was the clock dial that you were inspired by. It is a good clock face. I think I bought It from clockdial.com or clockface.com.  I don’t think they are in business anymore. I bought a handful of them years ago.

I’m glad I did.  They are printed on archival paper.

I don’t like to sell my projects. I sold so many oil paintings that I wish I hadn’t.  I hope you got a fair price for the clocks you sold.

Thanks Ryan Gi. It looks like a simple design but as I started building it, it turned out more complicated than it looked.
But it would be easy for someone with your skills.

The areas circled are cut at the same angle of angles on the top and bottom of the front stiles.

Hi Gary G. Thank you.

James, usually when selling I end up just covering the material cost + booth and commissions from the gallery (no labor)
Clocks are usually a profit maker that gives me a bit back for labor, typically because the use minimal wood.

My faces I used are laser etched tiles so the recesses provide a well for some paint. I'm always looking at tiles for future faces.

I get away with half-laps on my version, I don't think I could deal with the M&T for something of this scale so kudos for your pursuit of true A&C!
Like it, a great design done well. Nice work James.
Hi George, thank you.
