Kitchen Book Shelves

before these we had just two open shelves on each side of the windows. we wanted to get all the cookbooks out of the office and into the kitchen. the old wouldn't do it so i made some that would. made from all hard wood maple to match the cabinets. adjustable shelves. i put a slight curved toward the window so as not to look to square and boxy. finish is a few coats of General Finishes Arm R Seal. size is 36H X 24W X 11D. a few inches taller would have been better.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

I like them Pottz!  They look good. I like the graceful curve. Lends an elegance to them.
We just had new kitchen cabinets installed. I like yours better. Is that maple 5/4  and 6/4 lumber?

Excellent P!
The curve was a great idea, now when you are chowing down on Domino's, you can be looking up and thinking about what you could have been eating!
Nice! Great fit for the space and organization projects will be appreciated  daily!
I am sincerely hoping that my wife does not see this post otherwise I am building some shelves!  Well done!  They look great!

mr rick-thank you.
DL-thank you. no just 3/4 maple. the sides are 1" wide and the top and bottom bands are 2" wide x 1/2" thick.
petey-thanks my friend.
ron-thank you. yeah i didn't like the look with out the gentle curve.
splint-lol, yeah we'll probably be doing just that !
barb-thanks. the books were always outta sight, outta mind. maybe this will help get em used ?

I too like the curved elegance to the shelves. Good work.

Lots of entertaining books, besides here, do you do a lot of entertaining?
Do you keep your saltines in the old metal cracker box? I wish they still came in those.

Hey, Pottz. . .Nice work.  I think those shelves are really sharp.  The finessed curve in the front edge profile is really nice and it gives the piece a terrific look and a certain elegance.  Really really great!
Nicely done pottz! I'll join the crowd in approval of the curves - nice touch.
duck-thanks duck. we do do quite a bit. normally small get togethers. no crackers in the can anymore. those were better days.
papa- thank you very much.
steve-well i guess the curved shelves win the votes.

correction, i had told DL that the top and bottom frame bands were 1/2" thick, they are only 1/4". no way i could have cold bent 1/2" maple. 1/4" was bad enough !

How did you bend the top and bottom frames? I have bent thinner wood before. Specie of wood makes a difference.
