Willy Wonky

Just in time for Halloween, according to Kroger's calendar. Take one quick glance and you know he ain't right.

I had an idea about a warrior's helmet with glowing red eyes. Here it is. This guy is a king. He just got a battlefield promotion. They walked up to him, put a rag on top of his helmet and then the crown. Rough job being king, hell of a present but no future.

It looks wonky.  It's a helmet, not a head.

I bought the circuit card with the LED's in 2018.  Life gets in the way of fun sometimes, these things happen. That's what I keep telling myself. Most amazing thing is finding it and it still works!

I have no clue about 3d printing, but I made this in a similar fashion. Stacked and stretched rings.
When I switch from Arabic to Roman numerals that means I'm getting serious,no more playing around. But that's most of my process, play around until I find something I like. These are 12 segment rings cut on a wedgie sled, turned into oblong,

I assemble the rings on the drill press, using other rings to center the work under the quill.

When I get the rings all assembled, I use a Shinto rasp with the workpiece held in the lathe to get it in rough shape.

Before paint

2 pieces glued together, shaped and turned, crown points glued on.

First time I used my logo burner in the drill press. I set it up so all I had to do was slide the tray straight in and pull down the handle.

This reminds me of 0500 hours at basic. I can still hear him.

This is when I was adjusting the pots on the card  to get the blink rate I want.

This took all of July and half of August 2025.

Cool helmet Hairy. I don't know what is happening, but the progress pictures will not load for my screen.
Maybe the site is having problems because it is the same for a previous project I just tried to view.

Great use of the lathe hairy...

There you go Pottzy, sure beats a bowl and even SWMBO might keep this one as a reminder of you... especially if she watched that scary video.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Interesting headgear Hairy. Nice build.
