Loaf of Bread + Butter Knives.

In Smithville where I live there is a Community Center .right across the street from me. It is free for use by anybody that signs up.  That I have done. I help kids with their wooden projects etc..  I also give Sour Dough baking lessons.  I have always loved baking bread and have been baking bread, off and on , for about 35 years. Once you get your sour dough starter made the rest is pretty easy using the "no knead method".
You will now ask where is the wood working aspect is in my post.  Well fresh warm bread needs butter.  And viola. The wooden butter knife.

These are made from I believe Sapele for the blade and close grained pine for the scales.  The scales are glued with Titebond 3, and the knife is finished with a mixture of linseed oil and tung oil. A hole is drilled and a short piece of a leather shoe lace tied through the hole finishes off the knife. At the baking class we give one of these away using a lottery.  So far we have had 2 classes totaling about 30 students.
I also made up some kits so that other people could make their own.  It was a bitch trying to figure out how to cut out the scales just using the track saw. I do not have a table saw at the moment.

I also made one with inlay for myself.  Not as good as I had hoped for.

My wife makes bread near every other day. Sour dough is made often. She makes alot of starter. She also make yogurt. Lots of it. I like your knife. I'll show her. Maybe I'll make one for her.
Now I'm hungry! Neat to have the Community Center so close, and nice to share your talent with the classes.
A good way to use some scraps not to mention a good way to butter your bread.

--Nathan, TX. Hire the lazy man. He may not do as much work but that's because he will find a better way.

Your bread looks awesome. It’s so much better than store brands. I read that sourdough bread adds prebiotics to your gut.

The butter knifes look great and your sheaths add to the project. Maybe it’s not a sheath but it looks good.
