An Old Friend texted last week to ask whether I could make him a presentation box for Earrings that he planned to give his Woman for Christmas, this is the result... He wanted it small, and so it is : 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 2 1/4"... A set of my Wife Debbie's Earrings were placed inside to demonstrate the use of the "holders"... These were very simply made by wrapping dowels tightly with cloth and gluing onto a bit of cardboard... The three little pads created, compress on each other enough to turn the box upside down and not have the Earrings fall loose... Woods used were Bubinga for the sides, Yellowheart for the top and bottom panels, and Mahogany for the little 'riser' inside... I sent several images of the completed box to my Friend, who was well-pleased! My hope, is that they both (and all of us) have a Wonderful Christmas!
Completely unrelated, but I've been perusing People's pages and projects here on Craftisian... The level of talent and abilities shown here are mind-blowing, make me wonder what I'm doing here?? But for all of the time and effort folks put into their work, I'm (a little) disappointed in the photos taken of that work?! Outdoors, and in Sunlight with a nice backdrop, is hard to beat! But when that is not available, I can't recommend strongly enough a simple light tent set-up... A thin, white sheet or cloth draped loosely around an open-sided box structure, with lights on either side is perfect for "showing off" your work... The diffused lighting is no-glare, warm and uniform, makes it difficult to produce a bad image!
Anyway, thanks for your time and interest! For those who observe it, I hope everyone has a Quiet and Peaceful Thanksgiving... :)

Nicely done! Does the two scalloped interior pieces serve a purpose, or just for decoration? Nice choice of wood too…what’s the finish?
Your point about photography here isn't wrong… but then, not everyone has that type of artistic talent. Nice set dressing and lighting does go a long way to enhance the presentation!
Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".
RyanGi : There are actually four of those pieces... This little 'gallery' (or what I think of as a riser) indexes the box lid to the bottom, and the 'scallopping' is there not only for looks but also to diffuse any suction that might develop when the lid is removed... Thanks Barb!
