Spec Case

One example of spectacles cases I have made over the years. This one is from nicely figured quarter sawn white oak. Box joint for strength, because some I made with miter joints exploded when dropped. Too lazy to take a pic of the inside, the finger hole is offset for a dowel with a rare earth magnet to hold the lid on. I used expanded vinyl for the padding on the bottom, since spray-on felt I think is too rough. Made long enough ago that I don't remember what stain or finish I used. 🤷‍♂️
Size is 6-3/4" long, 3" wide, 1-3/4" high.

Nice box, Steven!! Put a spline in the miter joints and they'll stay together

Thanks, Jim! I recently bought a spline jig. Too lazy to make one. I'll practice on some boxes I've recently made.

Or just never drop it!

Excellent case Steven! The WO gives it a nice "man's specs" look, never to be taken by the spouse for her fancy specs 😀
Good and useful.   Nice

Ron

Thanks, folks! Splint, I drop stuff all the time! And yeah, the wife doesn't want it. I used to put it in a drawer of my carving chest when I went to the club/class, but haven't gone in years. One of the "instructors" hasn't grown into or out of his stripes from when he was in the Army. A real jerk.

If your wife doesn’t want I’ll take it. Nice work in the box joints. And the QSWO looks great. Looks like it could take a drop or two.

Like you said Dark_Lighting ya gotta love QSWO. Great work on the box joints they came out perfectly proportioned on the top and bottom.

James McIntyre

This was just for me, doc.
Thank you both!

Nice little box Steven!
Made something similar about 20 years ago for my Mom, to keep her glasses, pen & pencil, and the remote organized on the back of her couch...
She set it on its side on a shelf, put something else I made for her in it, and called it a shadow box...

She could never find her glasses, Bless her heart

Thanks, that's a funny spec case, what with the rocking horse in it. I keep my specs within reach on a side table when I'm sleeping. I need glasses to find my glasses. Didn't do me much good in '94 with the Northridge quake. Not much left where it was put the night before.
