Ratcheting Lock Knob for Disc Sander

I  changed the 10" disc on the sander and the plastic knob disintegrated when I was putting it back together. I decided to try to make one out of wood but the splined ring was .715" and I had no Forstner bit that size so it had to be bored on the lathe. That came out fine and then I put in 2  1/8" dowels along with epoxy to contain the ring and hold it up to the torque needed to tighten it.. It is made out of mesquite and finished with Danish oil and clear lacquer.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Very nice with such a complicated small mechanism.

Nice, Jim! I’m not positive, but I think I like fixing existing things so they work again more than making new stuff.

May you have the day you deserve!

Thank you all for all the nice comments.
Hi Dave, I like the challenge to replace broken plastic with wood!!! But, sometimes I'll use a good grade of nylon when I'm in my home shop where I have a metal lathe and a milling machine. I'd be lost without a lathe!!!!!!!!!!!
