A tool storage

I made a tool storage for my carving tools and checkering tools.

Since I wanted to fit an inner case inside and I didn't want to see grooves for the top/bottom boards from the outside, I cut a rabbeted box joint for the lid and a rabbeted dovetail(only pin side rabbeted) for the body.

At the end of the day, it's just a tool box but I was kind of feeling the risk of visible gaps..  Luckily, they came out okay but I just felt mitered dovetail is less stressful to cut(still feel difficult).

Now that I see this picture, I found a slight gap between the lid and body but I'll just blame it on the humidity so I can feel happy (I know it's on me). Anyways, the tools fit well so I'm just happy by it:)

And yes, this was my first time using carving tools to cut a texture and I really enjoyed it!!

Thank you!

wow another incredible project done with hand tools. your precision in impressive to say the least. and that pattern on the top took way more time than id ever have the patience to do. and a great video my friend. well done as usual !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nicely done! At first I though the top had a curly grain. Nice texturing, for sure!

Pottz!

Thank you so much! Before this project, I practiced the carving a little bit and found the carving pattern isn't that difficult as long as you cut a single direction. It's a 12x6" board and took less than 2 hours(still 2 hours but...) from the pre-drawing of the grid to finishing the carving detail.

Thank you DL! The grain on the board was actually nice without the carving, too:)

Enjoyed the video, very excellent work on the corners.    Like the indent between top and case.   Makes for a very nice box.

Ron

Gorgeous! Looking forward to viewing the video.
Thank you Ron! For the look, I didn't want the inner case to stick up too high from the box body so I cut out there and I can pick up the inner case easier:)

Thank you BB1. I hope you'll enjoy the video, too!

Love the "small" details like the top corners, DTs and fit up of all the parts!
Lid work texturing is excellent, cross grain even!
Thank you Splinter! Surprisingly, I felt going cross grain was easier to cut straight grooves consistently so I went with it(With grain, at some parts, it followed the grain)!!

Beautiful.  When I saw the textured lid, I thought it was fiddleback figure.   Even more impressive once I understood it was a carved top.  You do some great work.
The project post had me impressed.
The video is just over the top.
Beautiful and impressive work. It’s inspiring.
Beautifully done!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Video is great! I love your statement about not taking the easy route to show how fast you can build a box but rather skill building and enjoying the process. I need to get that mindset more often.
Ross, Thank you! It's a good way to make a regular wood fancier and I liked it, too! There are some variations so I will practice them:)

Gary, Thank you! I just tried my best to learn woodworking!

Ryan, Thank you as always!!

BB1, Thank you for watching the video, too. You know, no one forced me to do this, so even when it actually feels stressful taking that route, I have to call it a fun moment and keep going, haha. Well, as I keep going, I can feel myself getting better, so in the end it really does turn into something I enjoy.

Absolutely beautiful joinery work! A beautiful box can inspire better craftsmanship.
What an exceptionally beautiful box.

Nicely done, YRTi! Looks like you’ve added a new trick to your toolbox along the way, too. Carving is a nice addition.

May you have the day you deserve!

Steve, Thank you! My effort paid off, but I still have a lot to improve.
Dutchy thank you!
Dave, thank you! It’s just a simple carving, but I had fun, so I need to practice more to make more patterns!
